Challenges for Game Designers

To improve my design skills I have been working through the book Challenges for Game Designers by Brenda Romero and Ian Schreiber. Along with some fellow designers. We are taking on the challenges at the end of the chapters and prototyping them out. After a week we each present our work and open it up to feedback. We take the feedback and polish it a bit more before moving on. I have been building my prototypes in tabletop simulator and publishing them for public player after the feedback and some polish is added.

Race to Space

The prompt for this challenge was a simple "race to the finish" style game. Mine is a deck builder inspired by games like Dominion and Clank. Players try to build their deck most efficiently and get to the end of the board first.

Tile Control

The prompt for this game was a territory control game. Mine is an abstract game heavily inspired by the game Shogun. Players take turns planning out 3 actions at 3 of their owned territories. After a certain number of turns the player with the most territory wins.

Island Getaway

The prompt for this game was an exploration game. Mine pits the players against each other in a scramble to escape an island. They slowly reveal an island tile by tile, collecting items to help their escape while encountering random events and interfering with each others escape.
